SPD1200N2 ROS 2 driver: range node, topics, launch files
The ROS 2 package reads the SPD1200N2 over a serial port at 115200 baud and publishes sensor_msgs/msg/Range in metres. Install from the driver repository, pass the port and model name, and the topic appears in RViz.
Install and run
cd ~/ros2_ws/src\ngit clone https://github.com/ErdiTech/erdi-lrf-drivers\ncd .. && colcon build --packages-select erdi_lrf_ros2\nsource install/setup.bash\nros2 run erdi_lrf_ros2 range_node --ros-args -p port:=/dev/ttyUSB0 -p baud:=115200 -p model:=SPD1200N2Topics and parameters
| Name | Type / value | Note |
|---|---|---|
| /range | sensor_msgs/msg/Range | distance in metres, frame_id = lrf_link |
| port | string | serial device |
| baud | 115200 | published baud rate of the SPD1200N2 |

FAQ
What is the maximum range of the SPD1200N2?
The published range is Catalog range 0.2–1,200 m. A 1,500 m night-time figure appears in the source under special conditions and is not a guaranteed range. (SPD1200N2 controlled source technical table; strong sunlight or low visibility may reduce range). A range figure is only comparable together with the target and conditions it was measured on, so the condition is listed next to the value.
Which interface does the SPD1200N2 use?
The published communication interface is UART-TTL (customizable) @ 115200 bps (default).
What laser wavelength does the SPD1200N2 use?
The published wavelength is 905 nm ±5 nm; laser safety entry: IEC Class I.
How much does the SPD1200N2 cost?
The published single-unit price of the SPD1200N2 is $90, falling to $35 per unit at the largest published quantity band. Prices include shipping and are ordered directly from erdilrf.com.
