LRF1200A1 · 905 nm Laser Rangefinder Module

LRF1200A1 Arduino library and example sketch

The Arduino library in erdi-lrf-drivers decodes the LRF1200A1 frame (8 B / 2 B at 115200 baud) and returns the distance in m. Use a hardware serial port; SoftwareSerial is not reliable at this rate.

Wiring

LRF1200A1 TX → Arduino RX1, RX → TX1, GND → GND, supply 3.3 V ± 0.1 V (one older section says 3.3–5 V; confirm before wiring). Interface level: UART, 3.3 V TTL; check the level before connecting a 5 V board.

Example sketch

#include <ErdiLRF.h>
ERDI_LRF1200A1 lrf(Serial1);   // LRF1200A1

void setup() {
  Serial.begin(115200);
  Serial1.begin(115200);
  lrf.begin();
}

void loop() {
  if (lrf.readSingle()) {
    Serial.println(lrf.distanceMeters());
  }
  delay(100);
}

FAQ

What is the maximum range of the LRF1200A1?

The published range is 5–1,200 m (Building target; the source table gives ≥5–1200 m.). A range figure is only comparable together with the target and conditions it was measured on, so the condition is listed next to the value.

Which interface does the LRF1200A1 use?

The published communication interface is UART, 3.3 V TTL.

What laser wavelength does the LRF1200A1 use?

The published wavelength is 905 nm; laser safety entry: Class 1 (source panel inconsistent; confirm).

How much does the LRF1200A1 cost?

The published single-unit price of the LRF1200A1 is $90, falling to $35 per unit at the largest published quantity band. Prices include shipping and are ordered directly from erdilrf.com.
