LRF1200A1 · 905 nm Laser Rangefinder Module
LRF1200A1 on Pixhawk / ArduPilot: rangefinder setup
The LRF1200A1 streams 8 B / 2 B frames at 115200 baud in m over 5.0-1200.0 m. ArduPilot support is in the public driver work linked below; the flight-controller side is a serial port and a handful of RNGFND parameters.
Wiring to a Pixhawk TELEM port
Module TX → TELEM RX, module RX → TELEM TX, GND → GND. Power: 3.3 V ± 0.1 V (one older section says 3.3–5 V; confirm before wiring). Interface: UART, 3.3 V TTL.
ArduPilot parameters
SERIAL2_PROTOCOL 9 # Rangefinder
SERIAL2_BAUD 115
RNGFND1_TYPE
RNGFND1_MIN
RNGFND1_MAX
RNGFND1_ORIENT 25 # down
RNGFND1_GNDCLEAR Set RNGFND1_MAX conservatively; the published range is quoted Building target; the source table gives ≥5–1200 m., and grass or dark soil return less.

FAQ
What is the maximum range of the LRF1200A1?
The published range is 5–1,200 m (Building target; the source table gives ≥5–1200 m.). A range figure is only comparable together with the target and conditions it was measured on, so the condition is listed next to the value.
Which interface does the LRF1200A1 use?
The published communication interface is UART, 3.3 V TTL.
What laser wavelength does the LRF1200A1 use?
The published wavelength is 905 nm; laser safety entry: Class 1 (source panel inconsistent; confirm).
How much does the LRF1200A1 cost?
The published single-unit price of the LRF1200A1 is $90, falling to $35 per unit at the largest published quantity band. Prices include shipping and are ordered directly from erdilrf.com.
Does ArduPilot support the LRF1200A1 natively?
A serial driver for the ERDI frame format was submitted to ArduPilot (pull request 34983). Until it ships in a release, the repository above provides a Lua script that parses the same frames and feeds the rangefinder backend.
