SPD1200N0 · 905 nm Laser Rangefinder Module

SPD1200N0 on Pixhawk / ArduPilot: rangefinder setup

The SPD1200N0 streams 8 B / 2 B frames at 115200 baud in m over 0.2-1200.0 m. ArduPilot support is in the public driver work linked below; the flight-controller side is a serial port and a handful of RNGFND parameters.

Wiring to a Pixhawk TELEM port

Module TX → TELEM RX, module RX → TELEM TX, GND → GND. Power: 3.3–5 V. Interface: UART-TTL (customizable).

ArduPilot parameters

SERIAL2_PROTOCOL 9 # Rangefinder
SERIAL2_BAUD 115
RNGFND1_TYPE
RNGFND1_MIN
RNGFND1_MAX
RNGFND1_ORIENT 25 # down
RNGFND1_GNDCLEAR

Set RNGFND1_MAX conservatively; the published range is quoted SPD1200N0 controlled source technical table; strong sunlight or low visibility…, and grass or dark soil return less.

FAQ

What is the maximum range of the SPD1200N0?

The published range is Catalog range 0.2–1,200 m. A 1,500 m night-time figure appears in the source under special conditions and is not a guaranteed range. (SPD1200N0 controlled source technical table; strong sunlight or low visibility may reduce range). A range figure is only comparable together with the target and conditions it was measured on, so the condition is listed next to the value.

Which interface does the SPD1200N0 use?

The published communication interface is UART-TTL (customizable) @ 115200 bps (default).

What laser wavelength does the SPD1200N0 use?

The published wavelength is 905 nm ±5 nm; laser safety entry: IEC Class I.

How much does the SPD1200N0 cost?

The published single-unit price of the SPD1200N0 is $90, falling to $35 per unit at the largest published quantity band. Prices include shipping and are ordered directly from erdilrf.com.

Does ArduPilot support the SPD1200N0 natively?

A serial driver for the ERDI frame format was submitted to ArduPilot (pull request 34983). Until it ships in a release, the repository above provides a Lua script that parses the same frames and feeds the rangefinder backend.
