LRF100H · 905 nm LiDAR Distance Sensor

LRF100H on Raspberry Pi: Python UART reader

A Raspberry Pi reads the LRF100H through /dev/serial0 at 460800 baud. The erdi-lrf package on PyPI decodes the frames; the Pi repository adds a CSV logger, an MQTT publisher and a systemd service.

Enable the UART

Run sudo raspi-config → Interface Options → Serial Port: login shell off, serial hardware on. Wire LRF100H TX → GPIO15 (RXD), RX → GPIO14 (TXD), GND → GND. The Pi UART is 3.3 V; the published interface is UART, IIC.

Read a distance

pip install erdi-lrf pyserial

python - <<'EOF'
from erdi_lrf import ErdiLRF
lrf = ErdiLRF('/dev/serial0', baud=460800, model='LRF100H')
print(lrf.read_single())   # metres
EOF

Logging, MQTT and a service

erdi-lrf-raspberry-pi-python has a CSV logger, an MQTT publisher, a MAVLink bridge and a systemd unit that starts the reader at boot.

FAQ

What is the maximum range of the LRF100H?

The published range is 0.05–100 m (90% reflectivity); 0.05–30 m (10% reflectivity) (The two source values remain bound to their stated target reflectivity.). A range figure is only comparable together with the target and conditions it was measured on, so the condition is listed next to the value.

Which interface does the LRF100H use?

The published communication interface is UART, IIC.

What laser wavelength does the LRF100H use?

The published wavelength is 905 nm; laser safety entry: Class 1.

How much does the LRF100H cost?

The published single-unit price of the LRF100H is $200, falling to $80 per unit at the largest published quantity band. Prices include shipping and are ordered directly from erdilrf.com.
